THRIVING AFRICA- Dynamic Creativity
The launch of the photo book “Thriving Africa: Dynamic Creativity” took place at the Terrasse de la Mode of the Hilton HOTEL Yaounde on November 17th 2022 during the 13th edition of the CCMC YAOUNDE FASHION WEEK.
In her presentation, author Emily Pinna stated that the photo book is a natural continuation of her work as photographer and visual storyteller intent in changing the public perception of Africa that is too often focused on natural disasters, malnutrition, armed conflict, etc.
While these may be realities in certain parts of the continent, they represent only one side of the coin. The last decade has seen African countries steadily rise on the global scene socio-economically, but culturally as well. The creative African industry is vibrant and increasingly recognized and appreciated on the world scene. The current Western media focus on negative visuals from the continent does not do it justice.
“This book is my contribution towards changing the one-sided visual narrative coming from Africa” - Emily Pinna
All images in this book are taken during the yearly fashion week organized by the Centre des Createur de Mode au Cameroon (CCMC). This event transforms Yaounde into a true fashion capital each year, where the industry top designers come together. However the vision and the message are not limited to Cameroon, nor fashion, it just serves as a sample off an ongoing phenomena that is happening throughout the continent.
